What This Tool Does
The 3 Letter Anagram Solver returns every valid 3-letter word from any combination of your input letters. The filter is locked to exactly 3 letters. Results are Scrabble-scored (TWL tile values) and sorted highest-value first.
The database contains 1,040 valid 3-letter words from the TWL and Collins Scrabble Words lists. At this length, some high-scoring words appear: QAT (12pts), ZAX (19pts), ZEP (14pts). Enter your tiles to find every 3-letter play available.
Who Should Use This?
How the Solver Works
The solver builds a frequency map from your input and tests every 3-letter word in the database. A word passes if its 3 letter requirements fit within your available counts. Entering CAT returns ACT and CAT — both 3-letter anagrams using C, A, T.
Entering ATE returns ATE, EAT, ETA, and TEA — the complete 4-word set of 3-letter anagrams from those letters (A, T, E). Entering STONE returns 15 three-letter words from any 3 of those 5 letters. The solver processes any input length — entering your full Scrabble rack finds every 3-letter play available from any 3-tile combination within those 7 tiles.
Verified Examples
| Input | Results (verified) | Count |
|---|---|---|
| CAT | ACT, CAT (complete) | 2 |
| ATE | ATE, EAT, ETA, TEA (complete) | 4 |
| STONE | EON, EST, NET, NOT, ONE, SET, SON, TEN, TOE, TON + 5 more (selected) | 15 |
CAT in Exact mode returns 2 results — the complete set of 3-letter anagrams. ATE returns 4. STONE in Subset mode returns 15 three-letter words from any 3 of its 5 letters.

Tips for Better Results
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Entering only 3 letters in Subset mode when more are available. Always enter your full rack. The filter is set to 3, so only 3-letter results appear — but entering more letters shows every 3-letter play from any combination of your tiles, not just one combination.
Assuming 3-letter words always score low. ZAX (19pts), ZEP (14pts), QAT (12pts) are 3-letter words that outscore most 5-letter plays. Check the high-value end of sorted results before assuming a short play is weak.
3 Letter Anagram Solver vs 2 Letter Anagram Solver
| Feature | 3 Letter Anagram Solver | 2 Letter Anagram Solver |
|---|---|---|
| Filter | Exactly 3 letters | Exactly 2 letters |
| DB words | 1,040 words | 301 words |
| Score ceiling | ZAX=19pts | ZA=11pts, QI=11pts |
| Board use | Short plays, hooks, small gaps | Parallel plays, hooks, 2-letter gaps |
The 2 Letter Anagram Solver covers the smaller but critically important 2-letter vocabulary. Both filter to their respective lengths and use identical frequency-map matching.
