What the 4 Letter Word Finder Does
The 4 Letter Word Finder takes your available letters and returns every valid 4-letter word that can be formed from any combination of them. The length filter is locked to 4 — every result is exactly 4 letters, Scrabble-scored using TWL tile values, and sorted highest-value first.
The solver runs in Subset mode: results can use any 4 of your input letters, without requiring the full set. Enter a 7-tile Scrabble rack and see all 4-letter words available from any 4 of those tiles.
The database contains 3,181 valid 4-letter words — the complete TWL and Collins set at this length. Every result shown is a confirmed valid word.
Who Should Use This Tool?
How the Solver Works
The solver builds a frequency map from your input — counting each available letter — then tests every 4-letter word in the database against that map. A 4-letter word passes if each of its letters appears in your map at least as many times as needed. Every passing word is added to results and scored by TWL tile value.
Entering STOP gives 6 results: OPTS, POST, POTS, SPOT, STOP, and TOPS — all 4-letter rearrangements of S, T, O, P that are valid in the dictionary. Entering STONE (5 letters) in the 4-letter finder gives 15 results, because any 4 of the 5 letters can form the result. All 15 are verified below.

From Letters to 4-Letter Plays
The solver compares your letter counts against the full 3,181-word 4-letter database in a single pass:
Input STONE → 4-letter gate → 15 verified results using any 4 of the 5 input letters. Sort by score to find highest-value plays first.
Tips for Better 4-Letter Results
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Using the filter on only 4 input letters. Entering exactly 4 letters only finds words that are exact anagrams of those 4 letters. Entering more letters — your full rack — exposes every 4-letter play available, including ones using different subsets of your tiles.
Overlooking short plays on premium squares. Short words placed to reach Triple Letter or Triple Word squares often outscore longer plays that land on standard squares. A 4-letter word with Z or J on a premium square can score 30–90 points.
Not checking the 2-letter and 3-letter parallel opportunities. This finder returns only 4-letter words. If the board has tight spaces, also check 3-letter plays alongside. Short parallel words that hit premium squares can exceed longer plays in score.
Ignoring anagram families. STOP, TOPS, POTS, SPOT, POST, and OPTS are all valid 4-letter words from the same letter set. Different board positions may favour different arrangements of the same tiles — sort by score or scan all results before committing.
