What This Tool Does

The Phrase Anagram Finder pools all letters from any phrase input and returns every valid single-word dictionary entry from that combined letter set. This is the most open-ended input format — enter any text, from a two-word phrase to a full sentence fragment, and explore all single words hidden within those combined letters.

Phrase anagram solving (finding that one phrase is an anagram of another phrase) is a different and more complex problem — for example, ASTRONOMER and MOON STARER are phrase anagram pairs. This tool instead extracts all single words from a phrase's letter pool, which is equally engaging as a word discovery and wordplay activity.

Who Should Use This?

01
Classic Phrase Wordplay
Common English phrases and idioms often contain surprising single-word anagrams. Entering phrases like TO BE OR NOT TO BE or ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER reveals which single words hide in those familiar combinations of letters.
02
Literary and Film Title Word Discovery
Book titles, film titles, and album names are popular starting points for phrase anagram exploration. Entering a title and sorting by length or score often produces unexpectedly long or high-scoring single-word finds.
03
Personal Phrase Exploration
Meaningful phrases — names, mottos, personal statements — often contain personal significance in their hidden words. Exploring what words a personally meaningful phrase contains can be a creative and enjoyable activity.
04
Educational Wordplay and Vocabulary Building
Phrase-to-word exploration builds letter pattern recognition and vocabulary. Finding that MIND YOUR STEP contains MISTYPED, IMPROMPTU subsets, or other words is an engaging vocabulary-building exercise.

Tips for Better Results

01
Enter Idioms and Proverbs
English idioms like BREAK A LEG, BITE THE BULLET, or ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER contain large, diverse letter pools. Explore them to find long or surprising single-word results from familiar phrases.
02
Phrase-Length Filter for Targeted Results
After entering a phrase, use the length filter tabs to see only results of a specific length. The 7-letter tab shows potential Scrabble bingo finds; the 3-letter tab confirms what common short words are hidden in the phrase.
03
Repeated Letters Are Counted Correctly
If a phrase contains the same letter multiple times (TO BE OR NOT has three O's), the frequency map counts all instances. Words needing up to three O's can appear in results — the solver handles repeated-letter phrases accurately.
04
Try Your Favourite Quote
Enter a favourite quote or motto as a phrase and explore what words it contains. Meaningful phrases often produce surprisingly fitting single-word results — a pleasant coincidence that wordplay enthusiasts enjoy.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Expecting phrase-to-phrase anagram results. This solver returns single words from a phrase's letter pool — not alternative phrases using the same letters. Phrase anagram pairs like ASTRONOMER/MOON STARER require specialised multi-word software.

Including punctuation. Apostrophes, commas, hyphens, and other punctuation marks are ignored — only letter characters contribute to the pool. DON'T and DONT produce identical letter pools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do phrase anagrams work here?
The solver finds single words from a phrase's letter pool — not phrase-to-phrase anagram pairs. ASTRONOMER = MOON STARER is a phrase anagram pair that this solver cannot find.
Are spaces in the phrase ignored?
Yes — all spaces are ignored. Only letters count. TO BE OR NOT and TOBERNOT produce identical results.
What is the most letters I should enter?
Phrases of 10–20 letters produce the most manageable result sets — enough variety for interesting finds without overwhelming short-word noise. Longer phrases still work but produce hundreds of short-word results.
Is entering a complete sentence supported?
Yes — the solver accepts any text length. Full sentences work but may produce very large result sets. Use the length filter to focus on results of a specific length.
Does punctuation affect the letter pool?
No — apostrophes, commas, hyphens, periods, and all non-letter characters are ignored. The letter pool contains only the actual letter characters in your input.
Can I find hidden words in book titles?
Yes — enter any book title (or film title, album name) and find all single words hidden in the combined letters. This is a popular wordplay activity among literary and word game enthusiasts.
What is the longest word typically findable in a phrase?
From a 12-letter phrase, expect longest results up to 9–10 letters if the letter combination supports it. Very common short phrases (4–6 words each short) may contain 8–9 letter single-word results.
How do repeated letters in a phrase work?
Each occurrence of a letter in the phrase counts separately. TO BE OR NOT TO BE has three O's and two T's — words needing up to three O's or two T's can appear in results.
Does the solver work in English only?
The database is TWL and Collins Scrabble Words — an English-language dictionary. Non-English letter inputs will produce results only if the letters happen to match valid English words.
Can I use ? wildcard with phrases?
Yes — add ? to your phrase input for each blank allowance. Each ? adds one free letter to the pool, expanding results to words needing one additional letter beyond what your phrase provides.
