What the Scrabble Word Finder Does
The Scrabble Word Finder takes your rack tiles and returns every valid Scrabble word those tiles can produce, sorted by TWL Scrabble score — your highest-value play appears first. Scores shown are base tile values: the sum of each letter's standard Scrabble point value. Board bonuses (Double Word, Triple Letter, etc.) depend on your specific board position and are not calculated here.
The database covers approximately 75,000 words from the TWL (Tournament Word List — North American competitive Scrabble) and Collins Scrabble Words (international competitive Scrabble). Every result shown is a valid word in at least one of these lists. Use the length filter tabs to isolate plays at a specific tile count — including 7-letter bingo candidates.
All processing happens in your browser. No rack data is sent to any server.
Finding Your Highest-Scoring Scrabble Play
How the Finder Works
The solver builds a character frequency map from your rack tiles and scans all approximately 75,000 words in the database. A word passes if its tile requirements fit within your rack's available counts. Every passing word is Scrabble-scored and returned sorted highest-value first.
Entering QUARTZ returns 9 results. QUARTZ itself scores 24pts, leading the list. Below it: QUART (14pts), TZAR (13pts), and shorter subsets. The length filter lets you compare plays at each possible tile count before choosing a board position.
Verified Scrabble Examples
| Rack Input | Highest-Scoring Play (verified) | Score (base) | Total Results |
|---|---|---|---|
| QUARTZ | QUARTZ | 24pts | 9 |
| JOCKEY | JOCKEY | 22pts | 15 |
| WIZARD | WIZARD | 19pts | 20 |
| HAZARD | HAZARD | 19pts | 11 |
| FREEZE | FREEZE | 18pts | 8 |
| MASTER | MASTER, STREAM, REMAST, TAMERS | 8pts (all equal) | 101 |
All scores are verified TWL base tile values. MASTER, STREAM, REMAST, and TAMERS are anagrams — they use the same letters, so they score identically. Board position determines which of four equal-scoring plays is best.
How Scrabble Scores Are Calculated
The finder shows base tile scores. Apply board bonuses from your actual board position: multiply the full word score for Double/Triple Word squares, or add the premium letter value for Double/Triple Letter squares.
Scrabble Strategy Tips
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Always playing the highest base-score word. Board position overrides base score. A 24pt word on a standard square scores 24pts. A 12pt word on a Triple Word Square scores 36pts. The finder identifies candidates; the board determines the winner.
Forgetting blank tiles. A blank tile changes your entire available word set. Always enter ? for each blank — the finder shows dozens of additional options including words otherwise impossible from your regular tiles.
Ignoring the rack leave. After committing to a play, you draw new tiles. A poor rack leave — all vowels, Q without U, or three copies of one letter — weakens your next turn. Sometimes a slightly lower-scoring play with a better leave is the stronger strategic decision.
Confusing base score with final score. Scores shown here are base tile values only. Always calculate the board bonus separately for each candidate play before deciding.
